What are the Coalition views?
The Coalition for Tennessee's Future believes...
The Coalition believes that Tennessee must adequately
fund public education now or face a declining standard of living
and a state economy that's even worse than what we have now. Charter
members of the Coalition pledged themselves to getting adequate
and equitable state school funding so that all Tennessee public
school children can have a quality education.
But Tennessee's lawmakers have to act responsibly
for that to happen. If those of us who value children finally speak
with one voice to demand adequate funding, perhaps the General Assembly,
and others running for public office, will listen.
The Coalition emphasizes that...
The quality of education provided through Tennessee’s
system of K-12 public schools directly affects the standard of living
and well being of all current and future citizens of this state;
A system of dynamic and excellent K-12 public schools
requires qualified personnel, up-to-date materials, and modern safe
facilities;
The State of Tennessee continues to require educational
excellence through higher accountability standards without providing
the funds to operate the quality of schools needed to meet those
standards;
Public K-12 education faces catastrophic funding cuts
from the General Assembly during the current budget year;
The General Assembly has adopted no plan to provide
the major education funding increases needed either to maintain
or improve the quality of public schools.
Contact your legislator today because the children
keep growing. This state can't afford to wait for lawmakers to put
the issue of school funding off another year.
