Objective:

To provide an overview of the responsibilities of the board and superintendent in board operations and policy development, implementations, monitoring, and evaluation.

Description:

This session focuses on the importance of school board policy to school board operations. Board members have the opportunity to view a mock school board meeting and participate in an interactive exercise that analyzes portions of the meeting.

Topics that are addressed in this session include:

  • The Structure of Policy
  • Policy Development
  • Policy Review and Revision
  • Administrative Procedures
  • Policy Oversight
  • Board Leadership through Policy

Presenter:

Randall G. Bennett serves as Associate Executive Director/Legal Counsel to the Tennessee School Boards Association. He oversees the membership services, legal and policy departments for the Tennessee School Boards Association. Randy has been with the association for 11 years. He is a graduate of East Tennessee State University and The Nashville School of Law, graduating from both institutions with honors. He was formerly an elected member of the Johnson City Tennessee Board of Education and served as a public safety officer with the Johnson City Police Department.
