Objective:
To increase collaboration and productivity in
a school governance team and support high achievement for all children.
Special Considerations:

This workshop does not analyze test results,
but examines strategies for achieving higher student achievement
through collaboration.

board must attend.

Description:
Managing a school system is "big business"
that educates the majority of tomorrow's citizens and the success of
a school governance team is directly related to the future of our
nation.
In this interactive workshop you will learn about
the recommendations and how the "school governance team"
can:
- Build a foundation for teamwork
- Become more effective
- Gather & receive information
- Benefit from a Board Self Assessment
- Make informed decisions
- Disagree effectively
- Improve student achievement
Presenters:
Dr. Phillip White serves as a Member Services Representative for the Tennessee School Boards Association. Phillip has been with the association for 11 years and formerly served as Director of Risk Management for four years. Additionally, he serves as a member of the State of Tennessee Insurance Committee as the representative for all school boards. He also serves as an Adjunct Professor for the University of Tennessee at Martin in the Graduate School of Education teaching education majors that are pursuing a Master's degree in Educational Administration. He has a bachelor's degree and a master's degree from the University of Tennessee, an Education Specialist degree from University of Memphis and a Doctorate from Tennessee State University. He was an elected member of the Union City Board of Education for 20 years and served 12 years as chairman. He is a past president of TSBA, past chairman of the TLN and the first Level Five Board member. He formally worked for the State Department of Education for ten years and served as the district director for the Northwest Educational district.
Dr. Charles Lindsey has most recently served as the Knox County Director of Schools. He has also served as an appointed Superintendent of the Dorchester District Two School System in Summerville, South Carolina, the Clarksville-Montgomery County Schools in Clarksville, Tennessee, and as an elected Superintendent in Catoosa County, Georgia. His career in education has been varied having served, as a kindergarten teacher, a math and science teacher, a principal, and a school board member. Dr. Lindsey received his Bachelor’s Degree from Southern College and his Master’s and Doctorate in Education and Administration from the University of Tennessee. He was the 1993 Tennessee Superintendent of the Year and Tennessee PTA’s 2002 Outstanding Superintendent of the Year. In 2001 Dr. Lindsey was named as the Tennessee Art Administrator of the Year.
