Objective:
- To explore the board's role in creating a vision for excellence
- To learn how a vision for excellence can create a positive impact
on the school system
Description:
In this meeting, participants engage in discussion to learn what
vision is, how it is created, and the critical components it must
include. Board members discover how to build public support for
vision and explore ideas to translate it into reality. During this
session participants investigate standards of excellence and determine
methods to implement them in all areas of school operations.
Important topics for discussion and interaction include:
- Vision and Leadership
- Nature of Vision
- Examples of Vision
- Comparing Vision Statements
- Developing a Shared Vision
- The Power of Vision
- Translating Vision into Action
Presenter:
Dr. Barbara Prescott is a TSBA past president and former member of the Memphis School Board. Prescott served TSBA on the board of directors from 1996-2002. She was named a member of the All Tennessee School Board in 1999. Prescott, who served on the Memphis board for 10 years, received B.S. and M.Ed. degrees from the University of Memphis and a doctoral degree in counseling from Florida State University. She is a licensed professional counselor with a private practice in Memphis. She has also been employed as an English teacher, guidance counselor and alcohol/drug counselor in Memphis schools.
