Boardsmanship Awards

Approved events shall consist of the following activities, and board members shall earn corresponding credits:

10 points
TSBA Convention, NSBA Convention, SRSBA Convention, AASA, Facilities Management Conference, NSBA Edu Tech Site Visit, NSBA T+L Conference, or School Boards Journalist Conference

7 credits
TSBA Summer Institute, TSBA Leadership Conference,TSBA Policy Workshop, TSBA Negotiators' Workshop, TSBA Employment Law Seminar, TSBA Out of Harm's Way, NSBA Leadership Conference, FRN Conference, or TASBO Annual Conference

3 credits
TSBA Day-on-the-Hill, TSBA Fall District Meeting,TSBA Convention Community Relations Workshop, TSBA Convention Legal Clinic, TTU Law Seminar or any TSBA-sponsored or co-sponsored program a minimum of 3 hours in length

Approved experiences shall consist of the following activities, and board members shall earn 3 credits for each unless otherwise noted:

• Attend a county/city commission meeting
• Attend a meeting of another school board
• Attend a Tennessee Board of Education meeting
• Visit a legislator or congressman in his/her office
• Speak at a PTA or civic club about school board matters
• Give testimony before the Legislature
• Participate in a board self evaluation
• Present at TSBA Convention
• Serve as convention clinic moderator
• Complete a self evaluation
• Serve on the TSBA Board of Directors
• Serve on Tennessee Legislative Network
• Serve on Tennessee Legislative Network Board of Directors
• Facilitate a presentation to board members
• Serve as an editorial advisory judge
• Serve as a TSBA Ambassador
• Serve on Federal Relations Network
• Write a column/e-mail newsletter for a newspaper on board activities
• Serve as judge for TSBA Awards
• Serve as an evaluator of a board meeting
• Serve as a SCOPE group leader

Credit totals for each level are cumulative.

School board members will not receive credit for a repeat experience or elective within the same level.
