National School Board Member
Recognition Program Criteria
Each year the National School Boards Association will recognize up
to 10 individuals or 1 percent of board members in a given state,
whichever is less. Only nominees submitted by their state school board
association will be considered for recognition. Names must be received
by NSBA no later than December 31. School board members who are honored
will be awarded NSBA's distinguished service certificate and pin.
NSBA's criteria for selection is as follows:
- School board members nominated shall be certified by their
respective state school boards association as having met or exceeded
eligibility criteria established by that state association.
- School board members nominated shall have made a significant
contribution to the advancement of education as evidenced by their
leadership at and beyond the local level.
- School board members nominated shall have had regular attendance
at regional, state and national conferences. Regular attendance
at the national level shall be defined as attendance at a minimum
of three NSBA-sponsored workshops/conferences over a four-year
period.
Following is the list of selection criteria approved by the TSBA
Board of Directors:
- School board members nominated shall have had regular attendance

of three NSBA-sponsored workshops/conferences over a four-year
period.
- Must have achieved at least Level III of the TSBA Boardsmanship
Program.
- If more than 10 board members meet requirements of number 1
& 2, then the 10 with the highest boardsmanship level will
be nominated.
- If there are still more than 10 qualified board members, then
the 10 with the highest boardsmanship points will be nominated.
