Student Congress on Policies in Education
On March 8, TSBA will host the 2016 Student Congress on Policies in Education (SCOPE) conference, which brings together 9th-12th grade students from across the state to discuss current topics in education. Participants will explore education issues through mock school board meetings, group discussions, and debates with their peers. These events are designed to give students an understanding of how school boards operate. Click here for the brochure that explains the program, lists the debate topics, and contains the day's agenda.
Students are encouraged to bring their electronic devices (cell phone, ipad, laptop, etc.) to the meeting because we will be utilizing them throughout the conference.
Four delegates may be selected from a school system, or two per high school, whichever is more. Delegates must be in the 9th, 10th, 11th, or 12th grade. Registrations must be processed by the board secretary through the system's central office. Each system's board secretary will be receiving an email containing the link to the online registration form. Once registration has been submitted, TSBA will invoice the system for payment. Please invite your system's delegates to your February school board meeting so they can have an understanding of how school board meetings operate.
The deadline for registration is February 20, 2016. The registration fee for SCOPE is $60 per student and must be received by TSBA prior to the meeting on March 8, 2016. The fee will cover the cost of breakfast, lunch, information packet, group photographs, and the final SCOPE Report. The fee for chaperones is $16 (cost of breakfast and lunch).
