Legislative Services

TSBA keeps a constant watch over all legislation and State Board of Education Rules and Regulations that might affect local school districts. The staff works with legislators, the administration, state board members and education-related organizations in developing state policy that serves the interests of local boards of education.

The Legislative Services Department provides legislative information and supports the
Tennessee Legislative Network as well as lobbies for education issues during the legislative session. TLN Notes, our legislative newsletter, is published weekly during the legislative session. The Legislative Scoop, which contains information on every bill pertaining to K-12 education, is updated continuously throughout the session to allow board members to analyze and track bills from the time they are introduced.

Tennessee Legislative Network (TLN)

The Tennessee Legislative Network is composed of board members representing each of the school districts in Tennessee. Members are responsible for maintaining personal contact with their legislators throughout the year.

During the legislative sessions, TLN members provide legislators with information about key education issues and explain what impact proposed legislation may have on local school districts. Through the Tennessee Legislative Network, local board members have significant input into the legislative process.
